Nintendo should be extremely proud at this point. The maxim, There's no greater flattery than emulation, still holds true in the video game world. Everyone is trying to do the same thing, and at the same time come up with something original. Nintendo has always been at the forefront of this. They changed consoles with the NES and SNES. Their analog stick on the N64 revolutionized the industry and the Wii with it's interactive aspect has caused Sony and Microsoft to sweat bullets.
But, the time has come, as the walrus said, to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And Project Natal. This looks incredible if it actually works as advertized, these things rarely do. But it does allow for more freedom in games and less cheating than with the wii. I have a little brother who will run around the island on wii fit just by twitching his wrist. It loses the fun at that point in my opinion.
Here's another video that shows more powerfully what Natal is capable of. Of course Sony came out with it's own wii stick which looks more like Wilhelm's wand. Here's the video of that one. All in all, it's a wonderful time to be enjoying video games. But I feel like Project Natal won't reach it's full potential until they place cameras from every position. At least 4 for each direction.

Just found another video of Project Natal. I think this is the best one yet as it is not a demo but more of just showing off with people who have never seen it before. Check it out
While fun looking, I have to agree with Tycho that this will have zero impact on my life as a gamer. Like the Wii, Project Natal is just another party gimmick. Weee look I'm on the screen making shadow puppets! Is making shadow puppets fun? Totally. Does it affect the majority of time I'll spend on the couch playing RPG's? Nope. There's no way in Hell your getting me to mimic swinging my Vorpal Sword +1 so I can attack in Dragon Age. Although after seeing the tailers there may be other motion sensitive opportunities.
ReplyDeletei'll buy it if they come out with an FPS....
ReplyDeleteNothing can replace the NES duck shooting game.
ReplyDeleteWhat if you could shoot the ducks and that dog with lasers from your eyes.
