Ethically narrative shooter

First Strip    Previous Strip    Next Strip    Latest Strip

As I've stated before, I like Mass Effect 2. But I can't call it an RPG. TD and I were discussing what a game like this should be called. TD suggested Moral shooter, to explain that there's dialogue choices and shooting. However, I felt like that statement was leaving out a phenomenal storyline. Modern Warfare can be considered a shooter. As can Halo 2. But these games don't have the driving story that has become Bioware's trademark.

In all honesty, it kinda feels like Fable. The leveling up system is so simple. You have either a good choice or a bad choice or a neutral choice. If you want extra dialogue options, you have to choose paragon or renegade. But those choices don't change the story much.

I must say that I feel it's necessary to add the word "narrative", though TD is correct that a title that includes "narrative" sounds like a Dickens novel, because you play this game in order to play a story. You're not playing because your friends are begging you to jump in for a few minutes online. It's like a book. A book that takes around 30 hours to complete, allows you to flirt with the characters and lets you save your spot exactly where you left.

  1. Scanning was the worst part of that game. Even with the upgrade it was super slow. You had to actually work to get minerals. They could have tried to make it a little bit fun. Anyway, the ferret krogan is AWESOME.
